Ottimisticamente soprannominato "Pianeta della pace galattica", l'orrido e desolato mondo di Nimbus III è un esperimento congiunto che Federazione, Romulani e Klingon hanno deciso di tentare per verificare la possibilità di una convivenza pacifica interspecie. Ma l'unico che riesce a coagulare attorno a sè il pugno di disperati che si aggirano tra le dune è Sybok, uno strano santone vulcaniano dotato di grandi poteri psichici. Sybok, che ha abbandonato la ferrea logica della sua razza per le emozioni umane, convinto che siano queste la chiave per la conoscenza, occupa con la sua truppa raccogliticcia Paradise City, l'unico centro abitato del pianeta, e prende prigionieri i rappresentanti locali delle tre potenze. Incaricato dalla Federazione di ristabilire l'ordine e liberare gli ostaggi, Kirk arriva con l'Enterprise, senza immaginare che si tratti di una trappola del santone, il cui vero scopo è quello di impadronirsi di una nave. Sybok, che si scoprirà essere il fratellastro di Spock, vuole ad ogni costo un mezzo in grado di raggiungere il centro della galassia, dove è convinto che riuscirà a trovare Dio e a parlare con lui...(my movies.it)

When the newly-christened starship Enterprise's shakedown cruise goes poorly, Captain Kirk and crew put it into Spacedock for repairs. But an urgent mission interrupts their Earth-bound shore leave.
