Germania, primi anni '40. Ernst Lossa è un tredicenne tedesco jenisch, orfano di madre e con un padre venditore ambulante senza fissa dimora. A piazzare Ernst al centro del mirino, nella Germania nazista, è soprattutto la sua indole "asociale e ribelle", che fa sì che il ragazzo sia rimbalzato da un istituto all'altro, approdando infine all'ospedale psichiatrico di Kaufbeuren. Il direttore dell'ospedale è un medico dall'apparenza gentile, e invece convinto seguace delle teorie eugentiche sostenute dal Fuhrer. Ernst si troverà a proteggere i piccoli ospiti disabili dell'istituto, considerati dal direttore e dai suoi infermieri inutili ostacoli nel programma di liberazione della Germania dall'invalidità fisica e mentale.(my movies.it)
