Una versione più fedele del romanzo del 1880 di Lew Wallace, che esplora gli anni formativi del personaggio, il rapporto con il suo migliore amico Messalla, prima della conquista di Gerusalemme da parte del sacro romano impero. Nello script è presente la figura di Gesù Cristo, la cui storia verrà raccontata parallelamente a quella di Ben-Hur.
