Durante gli anni della vita di Cristo, Giuda Ben-Hur viene condannato ai remi accusato, insieme alla madre e alla sorella, di aver attentato alla vita del console romano in Palestina. Infatti viene mandato come rematore in una nave della provincia romana. Dopo molti anni di duro lavoro, Ben-Hur riesce a riscattarsi salvando la vita al console romano Quintus Arrius che lo adotta come figlio. Inoltre l'eroe viene scelto come partecipante alle corse di bighe di cui diventa subito campione. Ma Ben-Hur cerca anche di scoprire chi l'ha tradito in Palestina e parte alla sua ricerca. Lo troverà in Messala, un tempo suo amico, e lo sconfiggerà nell'ultima gara di bighe che si svolgerà a Gerusalemme.(wikipedia)

La acción se sitúa en el año 26 d.C. Roma somete a los hebreos a una violenta represión. Judah Ben-Hur, un joven judío de familia acomodada, conversa con Messala, un antiguo amigo de la infancia que se ha convertido en centurión romano. Erstwhile childhood friends, Judah Ben-Hur and Messala meet again as adults, this time with Roman officer Messala as conqueror and Judah as a wealthy, though conquered, Israelite. A slip of a brick during a Roman parade causes Judah to be sent off as a galley slave, his property confiscated and his mother and sister imprisoned. Years later, as a result of his determination to stay alive and his willingness to aid his Roman master, Judah returns to his homeland an exalted and wealthy Roman athlete.
